This year has brought a fresh challenge for our shopfitting team. Our traditions are focussed on changing creative designs into reality in retail properties throughout the UK. This summer we started on site at Islington Square which is a new place to eat, drink and shop, situated in North London’s old postal sorting office, but not as a fit out contractor. Instead we were awarded a design & build contract to create white boxes for the sites 22 retail units.
The work included installing structural steelwork, staircases, shopfronts, floor finishes and basic M&E installations. Traditional shopping malls are built with the incoming tenant tasked with fitting out the complete unit once leased.
The retail sector is currently witnessing a period of restructure and forward thinking landlords are beginning to develop sites where the retailer can move quickly into a part completed store on a shorter term lease with a lower budget.
The development will include botanical markets, pop-up bookshops and experimental theatre will collide in shopfronts, leisure sites and open community spaces. It’s an environment for curiosity and conversation, education and new encounters. We hope that with this experience behind us we can become involved working with new property developers in this way in future.
